We see the same boundary issues and decision making that we do in
therapy played out in everyday life including business or
political/societal life. We continually look at life through two
different lenses. Take any issue you want: marriage, politics, social
issues, parenting, or leaders. With our new lens—the DI—speaking a new
“blink” language, we can explore any relationship, any issue with a
profoundly new wisdom. We can now put all issues on the table in a new
way, in the name of truth unearthed by a new science.
Now we will apply the lessons from Gladwell’s Blink
to studying important issues of everyday life. We will continually
contrast how the surface (conscious) mind sees an issue with how the DI
sees it. In so doing we must keep one question in mind, “What part of
your mind do you trust completely?” For too long, we have lived with
the myth that our conscious mind always gives us good feedback—“if
we’re just honest with ourselves.” The “blink mind” basically says to
every person, “You won’t get the big picture without me.
The
first issue we will look at in detail is one that concerns every
person—success. We should expect new information from “Blink.”
